Happening in the Beehive...

Welcome to a new school year at TMSE! I am so excited to start our SIXTH year, and I am so glad to have your family as part of the adventure!

Learning to Be IB!

At TMSE, we are working hard to become IB Learners. The qualities of an IB Learner include: reflective, open-minded, thinker, inquisitive, risk-taker, knowledgeable, communicator, principled, caring, and balanced. Throughout the school year, we work to build these qualities in all learners, knowing that all students already display many of these qualities. We want them to know it, too!

Chess Blitz Week!

Wow! I can't believe the time has come for Chess Blitz. This is such an exciting week for second graders! The Honors College at the University partners with us to teach every second grader how to play chess. They will be here every morning this week, so please make every effort to have your student to school on time. After this week, we will have one lesson a week until the end of November. It is fun, and it makes our week look very, very different. Be sure to ask your student about chess! I am sure they will have a lot to say.

Ms. Thomas will finish her ten days of teaching this week. She has done a phenomenal job! I am thrilled for her to continue the city planning project with the class. Today, she's working on a grid map and street names for the city, and we discovered that chess is a connection to that lesson since it's played on a grid. I love finding ways that all of our learning connects!

Be sure to ask your student about this week’s happenings! We will...
  • Have chess blitz with the University all week long!
  • Start Partnerships on Tuesday afternoon.
  • Start Extra Explorations after school this week for students who have chosen to participate.
  • Review and assess Unit 1 in Investigations. We will introduce Unit 2. Expect the family letters later this week.
  • Complete our Unit 1 Reading assessment as required by the TCS reading department.
  • Build our city!
  • Have guided reading and word study as usual.

We’re ready for a
great week!
